TURAKINA RAILWAY DEVIATION.
A SLOW PIIOUESS
WOliK FOII A HORSE
The railway deviation works near Turakiiui are proceeding steadily, but apparently the completion is something ' to be hoped for .it some future day in the distance," writes our travelling reporter. Tho trucking of the dirt from thf excavation to the tip head is, he writes, done by two men, and to pass-err-by in the train an impression is given that horses, like farm labourers, are unobtainable. A couple of men hanging on to a truck as it travels down a slight incline to the tip head is a bit of fun to the men, and hurts nohody. but the practice of pushing the empty truck up hill for re-loading when •a horso might be profitably engaged on tho job, by no moans indicates a systom of expedition or economy. To a wanderer on the train, as he rushes by nt tho groat snood of about, ton mik^? an hour, it would appear also as if am easement has boon made in the number of men employed. Like tho train itsolt, tho work needs SDoedine xw i bit. ' fc J
