FRUIT PRODUCTION.
GOOD PROSPECT IX WANGANUI
COMMIXED STRAWBERRY RASPBERRY.
AND
Tho fruit trees about Wanganui are looking exceedingly healthy, and, judging by tho quantity of young fruit on tho branches, there will be no lack of fruit this season. Some peach and rectarine trees appear to be suffering from curly leaf, but apricot, plum and apple trees are very heavily laden. Spraying is pretty actively indulged in just now, and provided that heavy, boisterous weather is not encountered, a tremendous, and, in fact, a record crop should result this season.
Fruit growers in Central Otago are also said to b G experiencing one of the best seasons known for years. Strawberry growers may bo interested to learn that a Colorado fruit grower has produced a new graft by graftmo the strawberry plant on th© raspberry cane^_ In taste tho fruit resembles both tTie raspberry and the strawberry ; it is like a raspberry in shape, and is the ei/.o of a strawberry, but without the tartness of either. Tho plants grow to a height of. two feet. Iho leaves are unlike those of either of the parent plants.
