N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO.'S REPORT.

The New Zealand Loan and.Mercan-tile-Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch report;— ' ,

We held our usual fortnightly sale j»t our' Stratford yards on Tuesday last, when we yarded 720 cattle and \G sheep. We disposed of about half-the cattle and the sheep. Altogether cattle are dull of sale, and very difficult to quit, except weaners, which have advanced considerably since our last tale. We had some, veryiiice heifers yarded— both HoJstcinjind Holstein-Jersey cross ■which attracted considerable attention and brisk bidding. It is very apparent that -dairy farmers now recogniso that the Holstein cross arc tho most profitable dairy cattle? consequently anything showing this cross is keenly competed for.

The following prices were realised: Weaners (poor and weedy) 11s; to 20s, fair to medium quality 26s 6'l to oOs, while anything well grown and good coloured realised up to.4Cs; one lino of Holstein heifers realised 49s 6d. Store cows (light and low condition) 47c <;'d to G2s, forward cows 60s to 74s.'idj fnt cows 99s to 105s, 18-month, steers, a good number of. which were yarded of fairly good quality, only realised «5-5s to GSs, a very nice line of 3-year-old steers forward Condition and jfood qiiility were disposed of at 107s (3d, S-yeai-.ild omot-y heifei's sxrs now in demand^ and a line of these, sold--at. 665,' 3-year-old heifers. Holstein .cross, realised 140s to 153 i; ether 3-year-old (lieifer*, Hotisteii'r cross, realised 140s to 1555, other 3-yeor-old heifers in calf of fair good ouolity and in good condition' were 'disposed .of" afc from 106s ;) ,to 110s, bulll* from 64s to Bfis, and a small Vioo <»f spund-mouth ewe? realised 6s,'.
