THE WAIHI MINES.

AN ACCIDENT AND AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT.

(Per Press Association.)

... WAIHI, June 18. An accident to the electrical pump at the bottom level of the Waihi Grand Junction mine last week caused the cessation of pumping and the consequent accumulation of water, causing a temporary stoppage of work in the level. At the moment an unusual and important development', which a day or two before had made its appearance in the face of the drive on the Empire lode, was being, prosecuted. The development was, the opening up of a seam of rich ore, in which gold was freelydistributed. This is a most unusual feature, for seldom is there-a trace of gold to be. seen, in the many-reefs of tlio neighbourhood. Pumping having .been resumed and the level drained, work iii the level is being resumed tonight. Considerable local interest is being taken in the development of the Waihi Extended, the adjacent property.
