MAN AND WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER.

WOODVILLE, June 18. The Magistrate's Court was occupied the whole of to-day hearing a charge of alleged murder of a newly-born baby against Alice Maude Shepherd, domestic servant, living at Mangatoro, near Dannevirke, and John Cline, roadman tor Dannevirke county. It will be remembered that the body of a newlyborn baby' was found in a bag in the Woodvillo town sewer early in . tlirf month,, and a string was tied tightly around the neck oF the child. Two doctors testified that the child had lived and had met its death by strangulation. Woodville witnesses identified the baoand wrappings in which the body was found as having been purchased by themale accused. Other witnesses testified to the accused having stayed in Woodville together last month. Butler testified to the arrest of the accused, and a confession by the female accused to the effect that s"?. ~nad tied the string around the child s neck. His evidence was corroborated by Sergt. Cruiekshank. Accused reserved their defence, and were committed, for trial at the Supreme Court at Napier next week.
