• ■ WELLINGTON,. Sept 4. Lhe small salaries paid by the Government to land valuers was the eubif\r°l a deputation to the Hon. R. McNab. Several members of Parliament who formed the deputation, stated that the remuneration for services rendered was altogether inadequate lhe best men should be secured for the work and that could only be done by Baying adequate salaries. The Minister eaid he had gone thoroughly into the matter, and was in sympathy with the objects of the deputation. He had already determined to place a 3iim on the supplementary estimates this year for increasing the salaries of thle officers under notice, and ho hoped that within a year he would bo. able to; offer a satisfactory grade to valuers with satisfactory-salaries.

HallJones )to ask for an extension of the railway service to Kimbolton and Apiti The Minister, in the course of his reply, said that next year would be convenient to consider the matter, as some tour or five lines now in hand would be completed. The case made out by ■ ~$ deputation would be brought before the Cabinet.
