AUCKLAND, September 4. .Mr L. R. Philips., a oandidate for Waitemata, addressed a meeting at Devonport. He expressed himself as a straight out Opposition supporter, and opposed to Socialism, which aimed at State control of all means of production, distribution, and exchange. He was opposed to compulsory arbitration, and favoured the optional tenure of all Crown lands. A motion of thanks and' confidence was carried with a number of dissentients.

.NAPIER, September 4. Mr A. E. Jull addressed a meeting of Hawke's Bay electors at Hastings to-night, and declared himself a Government supporter. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks for hia address. * ;

WELLINGTON, September 4. Mr George Winder, who recently announced himself as a candidate for Wei lington East, has resigned the presidency of the Wellington branch of the Liberal Labour Federation.
