Great interest is being taken in the Cup match to-morrow between Old j Boys and Pirates, and the match should In "worth witnessing. Pirates will put in a strong team. Old Boys will be without the services of Johnston, G. Pownall, and Jones, but nevertheless it is expected that they will make a great fight. A special general meeting of the Rugby Union is called for to-morrow | (Saturday) evening, at 7.30 o'clock, at i 1 R. Jackson's rooms, to consider the raising of debentures in connection with the trip to England of the New Zealand team, and also other business. All j members of clubs are invited to be present, and it is hoped that there will be a larga attendance. The following motions will be considered at the special general meeting of tho Wanganui Rugby Union on Saturday evening:—Mr. Mount-fort to move and Mr. Tilley to second (1) "That the following words be inserted after the word 'paid' in by-law 5 of the Union's by-laws for Cup contests, namely, 'Any team not being able to start playing in any match with eight players at the timo advertised, or within 15 minutes thereafter, shall be deemed to have forfeited that match.'" (2) "That present by-law 20 of by-laws for Cup contests be rescinded, and in lieu thereof tho following by-law be inserted, namely, 'That the Management Committee shall have power to add, to alter, amend, or repeal, any existing by-law and to make new by-laws, but that such addition, alteration, amendment, repeal, or new by-law shall lapse unless confirmed at the next annual general meeting.' " Tho following fixtures for representative) matches have been drawn up by the Taranaki Union:—Hawke's Bay, at Hawera, August 16' Auckland, at New Plymouth, August 23; Wanganui, at Wanganui, September-9; Manawatu, at Palmerston, September 13 ; Wellington, at Wellington, September 16; Wairarapa, September 20. The Manawatu Union wrote stating that it desired to make its ordinary match against Wellington to be played next Saturday, 15th July, a challenge match. Being in accordance with the rules governing that shield, the request ra agreed to. Applications from the Wairarapa and Buifer Unions to have p. challenge match played against Wellington for the shield were held over for the present. Tho fact that the Maoriland Rugby footballers will not arrive till Friday, or perhaps not till early on the Saturday oji which they have to don the guernsey against New South Wales, shows shockingly bad management, says the "Bulletin" of July 6. The Australian tour seems to be only a grasp for boodle, irrespective of players or public. Under the conditions, the 'bailers can hai-dly be expected to show respectable form, and apparently the people who .s3ft&them don't care whether they do "?fr fibtv Possible that the injury received by Wales Rugby captain Wick <*affiVin the intern-State match at Brisbane, Queensland, recently, will cause his definite retirement from football. Prior to getting maimed, Wickham had captained the New South Wales team at Brisbane in eight successive matches, and, by kicking alonlf *had piled up heaps of-points.
