MOUTOA GARDENS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,— The Borough Council is to be commended on its decision to change the name of the Market Square to that of the "Moutoa Gardens." The selection of the new name is in every way most appropriate, inasmuch as it will perpetuate one of the grandest feats of arms performed during the New Zealand War, and also commemorare a battle won by the friendly natives over the rebels, which action saved the town of Wanganui and the lives of the inhabitants. Only one thing now remains to be done, and that is to impress the new name upon the public, which can be done by erecting two small arches over each of the entrance gates with the name "Moutoa Gardens" inscribed thereon. Here is an opportunity for someone, with a little local patriotism ! Who will be the first ? A couple of neat arches and a little sign writing is all that is required. Seeing that we are to have a pleasant ceremony performed in the gardens shortly on the occasion of "Peace being declared" it would be exceedingly nice to have the work completed before that event takes place.— I am, &c., VETERAN.
