SUNDAY ENTERTAINMENTS.
■ -». TO THE EDITOE. Sir,— l have read with much interest the reports of our Council's deliberations on the question of letting the Opera, House for Sunday entertainments, and I have been wondering ever since where Mr Chas. Voss qualified as a competent judge of what is, or is not, a performance detrimental to the town. The building is all right, and so, I think is he, but I wonder whether he is our servant, or are we his. Also, I wonder which side of Sunday steamer excursions Mr Hatrick thinks the line ough* to be drawn, and whether steamer men are paid by the day or week. Again, how a sober Presbyterian like Mr Peat takes his stand on the side of Sabbath desecration. As for Mr Gateriby I really can't understand how he can be so silly as to think ministers keep their congregation in late to prevent attendance at a " Sacred show, 1 ' and I wonder if he really does know what time church comes out. There are some other things lam wondering, for instance who owns the Opera House, what kind of a "show" it is usually that descends to Sunday work, and whether — but I think these will do to go on with.— l am, &c, PUZZLED.
