A CONSTABLE'S DUTIES.

Wellington; December 5. Constable Leahy ( stationed at Stratford died in tho train last night on flis way to Wellington. He had b,een in tbo New Plymouth hospital for some time, and latterly his brain gave way. He had been committed to the "Wellington hospital on doctor's certificate, and was brought down by Constable Eoache. He was very violent ou tbe way, and near Otaki lie died, LATEJt. At tho inquest on Patrick Luihy, a constable stationed at Stratford, who died in the train last night while boing conveyed to the Wellington Asylum, Constable Eoache, in charge of deceased, said at times he became «olent,but he and assistants wore careful not to hurt him IMr Leahy had complained of being ' overworked, having soveral departments to look after besides his own dutio3 as constable. Modical evidence attributed death to synope from tho failure of the heart's action, accelerated by the softening of the brain, and the violnnt struggling man could not have lived long. Dr Tripe eaid lie could not suggest that anything cou'd be done by the attendants in the train to save life, lhe jury roiucned a verdict iv accordance with the medical testimony, andaddoi a rider calling tho Police Department's attention to the appaiont overwork from which the deceased was suffering, and which seems to require thut further assistance) should be given in such cases.
