Napier, December 5. Mr Cohen was le-elected Chairman of the Charitable Aid Board.

At the Borough Council meeting tonight there was a somewhat heated discussion relative to the refusal of the Associated Insurance Companies to continue the subsidy of 4150 a year towards the maintenance of the Fire Brigades. The proposal that municipal bodies should undertake insurance met with some support, and it was also suggested that the business people should combine to support the companies who would contribute towards the maintenance of the Fire Brigude, the present rates of insurance being denounced a excessive, considering trie provision made for water supply and firo extinction.

Mr M. T. Shary, organist of St. John's uhurch, Ashfield, N.S.W., whose testimonials are of the highest character, ha» been appointed organist of the Napier Cathedral in accession to Mr Barnett, who hns been appointed to Sc, John's, Wellington.
