MrPinkerton, member for tho city, addressed a largely attended meeting of h's constituents this evoning.He defended the policy of the Government so far as ho bad voted for and supported it, and that the borrowing was entirely different in principlo and effects to previous borrowing for public works. Wi'h the oxception of that providing for the construction of mueh-necdrd roade, it would not entail any burden on tl)9 taxpayers, and would bo henohoial to tbo settlers and tho colony generally. He said ho had not changed hi 3 attitude on the temperance question, but was not preparod for every matter brought forward by the Temperance Parly. He would support looal veto and local control j but if the proposal to prevent the sale of liquor for moJicinal purposes was prohibition, he was not a Prohibitionist. A vote of thanks and confidence was proposed. TheHov. Roady.as an amendment, proposed a vote of thank 3 but no cotifl lonco. Tho amendment was negatived ; also an amendment of no-con-rHenca by Captain Fox. Tho motion »vas carried, a large minority dissenting.
