0 J.C. Meeting. Second Day. (Pee Press Association.) Christciiurch, November 9. The second day's racing of the C.J.C. wag a groat success. The attendance was larger than usual, and the racing good. A few soaking showers made things unpleasant towards evening. Eo3ults : — Middleton Hurdles, 1 mile and a distance. Cajolery, lOst 12lb 1 Balquither, 9st 2 Empire, lOst 81b 3 Also started — Erin-go-bragh, Magpie, and Smuggler. JSrin-go-bragh le3 for half the distance, followed by Empire, Balquither, Cajolery, Smuggler, Magpie, and Justice in the order named. Ac the top turn Cajolery moved up. Erin-go-bragh led into the straight, where a struggle ensued between Empire and Balquitber, both of whom passed the grey opposite the Stand. Cajolery going strongly collared the pair, and won by a leugth from Balquither, who was four lengths ahead of Empire. Time, 3min llsec. Dividends, £3 12s and £2 19s. Oritbkion Handicap, 7 furlongs, Geramt, 7st 1 The Workman, P;t 81b 2 Warrington, Bst 3 Vogengansf, TJa, Swivel, Inez, and Lady Zetland also started Ua hunc at tho post and The Workman was Blow to move. Vogengang led Warrington by a neck in front of s closely packed field until entering the straight where be retired beaten. Here The Workman got up and a struggle ensued, which seemed to terminate in favour of Mr Brown's horse. A surprise wa3, however, in store, and Qeraint shot out a few longths from home and won amidst excitement by a length from The Workman, who disposed of Warrington by half that distance. Time, lmin 30sec. Dividends, £U 3s and .£lO (is. Derby Stakes, 1J miles. 808 Mr .1. B. Eeid's Skirmisher, Vanguard—Ouida (McGrath) 1 345 Major George's Pegasus, Newson — Tenambra (Taylor) 2 502 Mr G. G. Stead's Beflector,r.iochiel —Iris (Derrett) 3 Errington also started. The field got away to a grand start, Pegasus and Skirmisher soon forging ahead. At Cutts' Errmgfcon ran up and the field tailed off, leaving Befiector in the rear. Little change occurred until reaching the kennels.where Pegasus led and Skirmisher was going up, Beflector having passed Errington. Bounding the top turn the lot closed up and Pegaßus led into the straight, but was soon under the whip. At the distance the issue was fettled, for Skirmisher waß going fairly and won with something to spare by two lengths, four lengths separating second and third, and a similar distance separating the last division. Time, 2min 42' sec. Dividends, XI 19s and £2 6s. Juvenile Stakes, 5 furlongs. Pom Pom, 6st 111 b ■ ... 1 My Jack, Bst 71b 2 Aldershot, Bst 3 Busybody, Dunlop, Nixie, and Ambush also ran. Pom Pom got the best of a good start and maintained hia advan'aja to the end, though he was challenged by Ambush, Aldershot, tnd My Jack in turn, winning by five lengths. Time, lmin 4$ 360. Dividends, £4- 93 and £3 15s 6d. Metropolitan Stakes, ljj miles Mr P. Butler's Au Eevoir, 7st 41b ... 1 Mr M. Walker's Liberator, 7st 121 b ... 2 Mr M. Hobbb's Prime Warden, Bst 91b 3 Also started — Clanranald, Eosefeldt, St Katherine, Bangitea, Ich Diaa, Melinite, and Thame. Prom a beautiful start Bosefeldt and Liberator got quickest awny. Liberator soon assumed command which he maintained until entering the straight at a terrific pace, followed by Clanranald and Au Bevoir in that order, the others tailing off a little. Once fairly in the straight Au Eevoir, disposed of Clanranald and challenged the leader, A desperate struggle ensued, and the mare lasting longest won all out by half a length. Time, 2min 36i}sec. Diridends, XI 13s and £1 12s. Epsom Him Weight Handicap, 1 mile. Exile, 9st lib 1 Melusina, Bst filb 2 Aldershot, Bst 81b 3 Won easily. Time, lmm 47doc. Dividends, £6 10s and KG Gs. The Auction Handicap was won. by Boseguard.
