OUR VOLUNTEERS.

__♦ WANGANUI NAVALS v. PONSONBY NAVALS. VICTORY FOR LOCAL MEN. The annual shooting competition between the Ponsonby (Auckland) and Wanganui'Navals took place on Saturday afternoon, both teams using their own range. Captain Willis was referee for the Poneonby men, whilst Lieutenant Smith, of the Auckland Navals, acted in a similar capacity for the Wanganui team. The aggregate score of the local men totted up to 484, whilst intimation was" received by wire that the total of the Auckland team was 455, thus leaving the WangaAui Navals winners by a majority of 29 points. The hist time these two teams met the result was the reverse of the competition decided on Saturday last, the Ponsonby. team winning by 19 points. The individual scores of the latter have not come to hand ; beneath we append those of the local men. The ranges were 200, 300, and 600 yards, seven shots at each range.

Wo would remind members of the Wanganui City Rifles of that company's inspection parade this evening at 7.30. 'As the management of the corps, as an inducement for regular attendance, have decided at the end of the year to give money prizss ranging from 30s to 5s to the most regular attendants at the parades, we expect to see fuller musters than heretofore. By the courtesy of C.P.O. Sustin, we havo received the card issued to the members of. the Naval Artillery, showing the parades for this month (June). The first parade will be that of the commanding officer on ' Thursday next (in drill order, with gaiters), at 7.30 pm. The orderlies for the month are P.O. McKinnon and second-class P.O. Delves, whilst Gunners Collins and Derungs will act in a similar capacity in the gun room.
