FIRST DAT. (Pee United Pbess Association.) Dunedin, February 25. The Dunedin Jockey Club's Autumn meeting was commenced to-day in threatening weather, but no rain fell. The attendo-nce was large, and the stand presented a gay appearance. _ The racing was excellent, the finishes being close and exciting. The sum of £13,992 went through the machines. The following are the results : — Hurdle Bace, of 100 soys ; H miles. Mr O'Brien's Little Arthur, list 21b (Clark) : 1 Mr D. Butherford's Ahua, 12st 10lb (Lunn) 2 Mr Wright's Trimolite, lOst (Allen) ... 3 Five others ran. Won by half a length after a fine finish. Time, 3min Jsec. Dividend, £6 Is. Champagne Stakes, of 250 soys; 6fur- . longs. Mr Lunn's Cajolery (Derrett)..'. ... 1 Mr : O'Brien's Florrie, 71bs penalty (White) 2 Mr Harris' Union Flag (Clifford) ... 3 Tassy , and Fairchild also started. Cajolery played up very much, and was allowed a flying start, the result being that he was never caught, winning comfcrtably. Time.lmin 16isee. Dividends, £6 10s 6d and £8 2s 6d. Dunedin Cup, of 600 soys; second horse, 100 soys; third horse, 50 sovsj 2 miles and a distance. Mr O'Brien's Freedom, Bst 31b (White) 1 Mr Stephensoh's Occident, Bst 81b (Leeston) 2 Mr Wl Clifford's. Crutchfield, 7st 81b (Brown) - 3 Hilda, Prime Warden, and Assyrian King also ran. Assyrian King was the first ito show, in front, with Crutchfield next, Freedom and Occident lying last. In this order they completed the first round, Crutcbfield and Assyrian King alternately leading. At the windmill, three-quarters of a mile from home, Hilda closed up, and at the top of the course Occident was in tho van and Prime Warden had taken the lead. Freedom joined in the struggle a little later, and Assyrian King retired beaten. At the home turn Hilda was in difficulties and Prime Warden appeared to have had enough. Crutchfleld led into the straight, and Occident and Freedom at once challenged the gelding. A fine struggle en- ' sued, but Freedom was in the best condition and got in front, winning by a length and a half from Occident, Crutchfied two lengths away third, Hilda more than a length away fourth, Prime Warden ifth, and Assyrian King last. Time, 3min 57sec. Dividends, £i 7s. 6d and £9 16s. ' Selling Eace, of 60 soys % 1 mile and a distance. Mr Nicholson's Leinster (Smith) ... 1 Mr Mercers Gazelle 2 Mr James' Eose of Cheviot 3 Six others ran. ' Won by a length. Time, 2min 3sec. Dividends, £23 6a and £23 9s. Publicans' Handicap. Hon. G.
