THE SOUTHERN RUNHOLDERS.
DEMAND FOii EEDUUEIOX OF BBNTS. (per united press association.) Dunedin, February 23, A deputation, representing runhol* ders, waited on the ilon. Mr Ballance, iVliaister of Lands, to-day, to ask for a eduction of rents on pastoral runs. They urged that when the leases were sold the price of wool w*s '65 per cent, higher and stock was at a batter price. The Minister pointed out that the question was a serious one, as, if granted, it meant an addition to the property tax. If Government made a concession to one class of tenants they must do the same to others. If rents were reduced they must inquire (sic) iv each case. The Hon. Mr Campbell oaid if the present rents were continued nmholders inuat ihrow up their runs. Government would then have to take the tenants at a reduced rent. The Minister said tha matter must be dealt with by Parliament. He would lay the matter before the Cabinet.
