Mrs E. Perry, Senr., Pongaroa, is on a visit to Auckland.

Mrs F. H. Mayman, who has been on a visit to the South Island, has returned to Pongai’oa.

Mr A. H. Cockayne was elected a scientific member of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand yesterday. It is announced from Government House that her Excellency Lady Newall left New Zealand for England recently with her son. Her Excellency will return to the Dominion within the next few months.

The engagement is announced of Shirley Morriss, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr T. L. L. Mason, Nursery Road, Masterton, and Harry Sedgeley, R.N.Z.A.F., only son of Mr and Mrs H, J. Bannister, Cornwall Street, Masterton.

Mr L. J. Wild, Feilding, was reelected president of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand at its annual meeting yesterday. Mr C. K. White, Hastings, and Mr W. M. Bishell, Blenheim, were re-elected vice-presi-dents.

The 49th birthday of the Duke of Windsor fell yesterday. He was born on June 23, 1894, and succeeded his father, King George V, to the throne of England on January 20, 1936. Almost 11 months later he abdicated and is at present Governor of the Bahamas. Mr R. H. Williams, secretary of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, left Masterton today for Timaru, where his father, Mr George Williams, died yesterday at the age of 95 years. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to Mr Williams in his bereavement.
