The former New Zealand tennis star, Wing Commander C. E. Malfroy, D.F.C., has been appointed to lead a Spitfire wing. Wing Commander Malfroy was taken off operational flying last July, after completing some 300 hours of flying. Then, following on a spell instructing, he joined the headquarters staff of a fighter group responsible for the defence of South-West England. He recently took a fighter leader’s refresher course before assuming command of his wing. Wing Commander Malfroy has destroyed at least four enemy aircraft and damaged several others.
