A letter was received from the Dominion Rationing Controller in answer to an application forwarded by the Masterton Navy League for a permit to purchase garments for seamen without coupons. The Controller regretted that no provisions had been made for the Navy League to purchase garments or material coupon free. The National Patriotic Fund Board, Provincial Patriotic Council and the joint councils of the Red Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Brigade had been granted permits to purchase without coupons and the Controller suggests ed that the Navy League should apply to one of these organisations for material for garments for seamen. Miss Guild was elected delegate to the Mayoress’s Patriotic Committee and Mrs Forsyth was elected to take Miss Guild s place on the sub-committee in charge of the arrangements for the Anzac Club. The wool committee reported that 73 garments were ready for transport to Wellington. Two local men had been given woollen comforts during the month. Pullovers and socks are the garments most urgently needed and it was decided to have typed a supply of directions for making these. Twenty-six garments which had been donated were packed for the Mission to Seamen. The committee desire to thank all those who have given assistance with the knitting and those who had made donations in money and clothing, or in any way assisted the Navy League’s war effort.
