OBITUARY

MISS MARY BODDINGTON. The many friends of Miss Mary Boddington, a well-known and highly respected resident of Masterton, will regret to hear of her death, which occurred last night in her sleep. Miss Boddington was about as usual yesterday. The late Miss Boddington, who was born in Christchurch in 1874, was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. C. Boddington. She came to Masterton with her parents in 1879 and except for some years in England and Australia, had lived here ever since. For about 20 years she had been associated with her brother, Mr H. M. Boddington, in the latter’s office. Miss Boddington was the first treasurer of the Women’s National Welfare League and in recognition of her services she was later elected a life member. She was actively connected with the refreshment arrangements at Wairarapa tennis tournaments for many years and, with the Misses Vallance, was responsible for the arrangements for the annual Sedgley Home collections. She was a strict churchwoman. Two brothers, Messrs H. M. Boddington (Masterton) and A. J. Boddington (Johannesburg, South Africa), and two sisters, Mesdames F. D. McGovern (Auckland) and Ernest Stone (South Perth, Western Australia) are left to mourn their loss. < The funeral will leave St. Matthew’s Church tomorrow, after a service at 2 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery.
