A well-known former resident of Masterton. Mr Dennis McMullen, died at his son's residence. Wellington, yesterday. He was 88 years of age. ' Messrs A. Bicknell (Wanganui). A. Hunter. A. Blaikie (Timarn). E. Garrick (Feilding), A. W. Broe (Lower Hutt). J. Smart (Pahiatua), F. Rudge (Wellington) were guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, recently. Mr W. G. Perry, of Masterton, has received word of the death of his sister, Mrs E. C. Tucker, of Brooklyn, Wellington, which occurred early this morning. Mr Perry has left for Wellington. The following officers have been elected in connection with the United District Fire Brigades for the ensuing year: —President, Fireman L. V. Horne; secretary, H. A.. Annand, Waipukurau; vice-presidents, Superintendent )Y. Lawry, Pahiatua, Deputy-Superinten-dent W. Boston, Featherston, Secretary W, A. Wyatt, Palmerston North and Foreman R. Colwill, Hastings.
The death occurred in a private hospital at Martinborough yesterday of Mr Simon Campbell of Birch Hill, at the age of 83 years. Mr Campbell first took up the property known as “Stoney Creek" but gave that up and purchased “Birch Hill" about fifty years ago and had resided there ever since. He was noted for his excellent methods of farming. His wife pre-deceased him 30 years ago. He leaves a son, Mr William Campbell, and three daughters—Mrs L. Sievers (Hinakura), Mrs F. Hancox (Dyerville), and Miss Jean Campbell, to whom the sympathy of a very wide circle of friends will be extended. Another son, Murdo, made the great sacrifice in the 1914-18 war. The funeral took place at Martinborough yesterday and was largely attended, the cortege being representative of the whole district.
A member of the Upper Hutt Borough Council, a borough representative on the Wellington Free Ambulance. the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, and the Wellington and Suburban Water Board, Mr William Greig. J.P.. died on Monday after a short illness, lie was 77 years of age. Born at Greenock, Scotland. Mr Greig came to New Zealand with his parents at the age of 11 years. He joined the New Zealand Government Railways early in his carrer, and spent most of his time stationed at Upper Hutt. During those years be became one of the most popular and widely-known locomotive drivers in the Wellington district. . At the age of GO he retired on superannuation. He leaves a wife, throe sons, and four daughters: Messrs W. T. Greig (Auckland). D. Grieg (Upper Hutt), mid A. IVI. Greig (Mananui). and Mesdames F. Whiteman (Upper Hutt.'. K. Geange (Upper Hutt), E. Russell (Whiteman's Valley), and W. Donovan (Christchurch).
