INCREASED DUTIES

CIGARETTE AND TOBACCO PRICES INCREASED!

Increased prices for cigarettes and tobacco, following on the imposition of additional duties and excise on these lines to meet war costs, became effective in Masterton at midday today. The public were able to buy their supplies at the usual prices this morning but after midday an increase of Id for a packet of ten cigarettes and 3d for two ounces of tobacco was charged. These increases are in accordance with the charges made in other parts of New Zealand.

The council, which controls the prices to the public Of tobacco and cigarettes, states that an amendment to the fixed retail price list is in course of preparation for immediate issue to’ the retail trade.
