ROAD CYCLING
WAIRARAPA CLUB’S RACE. WIN FOR WOOLLETT. 1 Cold weather conditions prevailed on Saturday afternoon when the Wairarapa Amateur Cycling club held its weekly race over a distance of 28 miles. The course was from Fly and Young's, corner, Bannister Street to Gladstone and Carterton, finishing opposite the Central school in Queen Street. Eight riders faced the starter, the scratch men giving the limit men Grains 15secs start. E. Lefort and A. Morris were the first away, followed by B. Dooling, M. Graham, J. Brader and G. Goodin; and R. Copp and K. Woollett. Lefort and Morris were riding very well when Morris developed gear trouble necessitating his retirement from the race at Gladstone. Graham also developed machine trouble and retired with Dooling. The one minute men, Brader and Goodin, caught Lefort about half-way between Gladstone and Carterton. Goodin left these two riders shortly afterwards. but was in turn caught later turning onto the main north road by the two scratch men Copp and Woollett. These three riders completed the journey together. In the sprint over the last one hundred yards. Woollett narrowly defeated Copp for place honours with Goodin third and Lefort finishing in fourth place. Considering the cold weather conditions, and the fact that the course traversed about 10 miles of corrugated, metal road, the time macle was very good. Detailed results with respective limes are as follow:—K. Woollett (scr), 1 (1 hour 20min 50sec); R. Copp (scr) 2 (1 hour 20mins 50 l-ssecs); G. Goodin (1 min), 3 (1 hour 21 mins 50 2-5 sec); E. Lefort (6.15), 4 (1 hour 27min lOsesc). Fastest time honours went to the riders as above
