Determined Suicide.

Aud suicide, committed apparently with great deliberation, occurred at Wellington on Wednesday, the victim being Ur William Eton the well known fruiterer in Cuba Street. The Poet says Elm was found suspended by a elotbes-line from one of the rafters of a shed, his feet being nearly three feet from the floor. Dr Cole was sent for, and was in attendance and efforts were made to restore animation but without avail. On the deceased was found the key of his drawer, and upon the latter being opened the following notes, written on the backs of envelopes, were found “ N.G., Wellington Lodge Oddfellows.—See your broken hearted brother buried.—W. Elvis” “Wellington Bank of New Zealand, Oct 7.—Please to pay Mrs Elrin the balance of my account, ten or twelve pounds.—W. Elvis.” “ 53 1 Cuba Stieet.—l, W. Elvin, leave every* thing I possess to my wile, and hope she will do better with it than 1 have done. I cannot face poverty. Good bye and God bless you all —£2 l 10s.-W. Elvin.” The deceased had been in business in Cuba Street for about twelve months, but has just sold out his interest in it. He was a steady, quiet man, highly respected by all bis neighbors, and was not looked upon as a man likely ever to destroy himself. For some weeks past he seemed to have been despondent, and complained of trade depression. Fear of losses appears to have nchinged his reason and made him put an end to his existence. Deceased was 52 years of age, and leaves a widow aod five daughters to mourn his loss.
