Suicide at Auckland.
Jno. Gurr. head master of the Onehunga Public School was found drowned the other morning at the Mangere Bridge, over an arm of the Manaksn harbour. Grave charges were pending against Mr. Gurr of misconduct with a female pupil at his school, and this is supposed to have led him to commit the fatal act. He was an elderly man, with five children, and was possessed of high abilities, musical, as well as ednea tional, and was Chairman of the auckland Braneb of the New Zealand Teacheis’ Insti* tnte. His daughter discovered a letter lying upon the table addressed to the Rev Mr Mnlgan, Church of England clergyman at Onehunga. In the letter deceased said—- “ Look alter my children, and break the news gently to my family. Look near the little bridge.” He fold a frietd when his wife went Bomb that, having got rid of her, he would fight it out in the Supreme Court. One of deceased’s sons is in business in Parnell, and another is in the Government Insurance Office at Wellington. Mr Gurr was ttansferred to (Onehunga from Christchurch 15 months ago, and was formerly teacher at Invercargill and Inspector of Schools at Christchurch. He was at one time a school teacher in Feathers ton.
