Plug Dispensers.

To the Editor of the Standard.

Sib,—Allow ms space in jour columns to make a few remarks concerning ping die* pensers. I hare been wire fencing ever since wire fences was introduced in the South Island, and I believe I have used ererj now idea that has come out. 1 found out a plug dispenser mjself about four years ago, but I did not apply for a patent or make much noise about it, as I have oome to tbs conclusion that there is nothing better than the plug and nothing so quick; I believe in wooden plugs, that is if made in a proper way and of the right material. I have never used anything else, and as for splitting straining posts, that is all bunkum ; any post that is fit to be used as a strain post, say 10 by 10 or 12 by 12, will stand plugging with iron or wood. I have never seen one of tbose dimensions split as yet; the only advantage there is with the plug dispenser is, when straining wire to a very small post. There are several sorts of plug dispensers. I used one over twenty years ago that was called a belt; it has a hinge at the back, and passes round the post and fastens on the wire by means of a nnt; that of course is very slow. And tbat is not the one I found out lately. I have not seen Mr Jenkins’ ; but by the way it is described in your paper I think my own t the best. I use a short piece of wire, sty two feet long, and attach it to the wire yon are going to strain, without bending the main wire at all ; the same short piece of wire will pull up all the wire in one strain. The cost of thia dispenser is aboot ss, but it is not so quick as (be plug.

I am, Ac., Owen Hatcock.
