WOMEN'S DIVISION

PUKEATUA BRANCH. Mrs Bethune (president) presided over a well-attended meeting of the Pukeatua branch of the Women's Division in the social room of the local hall on the afternoon of Tuesday last. A considerable aimlount of correspondence from headquarters was read and discussed. It was decided to try and get several well-known public speakers to address meeting's during the coming year. The question of making skin gloves was considered and it was agffleed to try and get further information in connection with the work, and it was hoped a demonstration dould be arranged for some future meeting. Several members drew attention to the bleak and isolated situation of the new settlerte on the Ellicott estate, and it was agreed to forward a collection of vegetables, jams, books, etc., as a friendly gesture from the Pukeaitua settleiis^ The president exptressed the pleasure all felt at having Mesdames Ferguson and M. Rumbles back in their midst after their enforced absence. After the routine business was concluded Mfiss R. Tindall gave a demonstration on papeivflcweti" making and waxing. She also exhibited a collection of beautifully made specimens of the art. Mrs W. Bethune won Ist prize for shortbread, and Mrs Borrell Ist foil", plain scones. Mrs Soloman was quite busy at the sales table, and Mjiss Kurth likewise as librarian.

A delightful afternoon tea was served by Me'sdames Jenkins, Kurth iand McK.ee, while, the social programme was arranged by Misses Kurth and Tindall.
