Mr Cecil Bowden, of Gisborne, is at present visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs Chas. Bowden, of College Street.

.Mr and Mrs Fryday, of Stratford, are Bpending a few days in Te Awamutu district, as the guests of Mr and Mi's Morey, Ohaupo Road.

Messrs Albert Russell and B. C. McCartney, of Auckland, who were in Te Awamutu last evening in connection with the public meeting re the Ottawa Agreement, left this morning for Matamata, and then to Puivekohe.

Mis* J. Reston, of Stratford, has taken up her duties at Te Awamutu telephone exchange as a supervisor, in succession to Miss Mclntyiie, who recently resigned from the service.

The engagement is announced of Isobel Christina Spence, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. R. Spence, of Te Awamutu, to Raymond Lance Adams, third ,son of Mr and Mrs J. Adams, Owens Road, Epsom, Auckland.

A vary happy little social gatheringwas held in the fire brigade station on Tuesday evening, when member's and their friends assembled to bid farewell to Fireman Ken. Mills, who has resigned after over five years' sorvice to take up an appointment on the staff of the Tokanui Mental Hospital. During the evening Superintendent B. F. Morris asked Mr Mills to accept a case of pipes as a token of goodwill for the future and appreciation of his five years' association with the brigade, during which time he had proved a very keen and useful fireman, good company, and conscientious to a degree. All regretted his resignation, but hoped the >step he had made would be in everyway satisfactory. Mr Mills was accorded musical honour's, after which he acknowledged in appropriate terms the presentation and the kindly senti-ments-expressed. ■
