WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. The" monthly meeting of the Wo-, men's Institute was held at the Parish Hall on Friday, Mrs Downes pre. siding over a large attendance. Business was discussed and included remarks about the Women's Institute court at the recent Waikato Winter Show. ■•-:..■ ... "Ml s Downes congratulated the members on their good work in gaining third place. A special prize was awarded to Mrs Lewis Nicholson for her verandah blind which was made entirely by herself. A very amusing play reading was given by Mrs W. McCready and Mrs Locke, entitled "The Hostess's Husband," and very enjoyable songs by Mrs Mathews. All the articles which were: en display at the W,aikato Show were again on exhibition at the meeting, and were admired by many of the members. A very interesting demonstration on Ihe making of pastry was given by Mrs Dowr.es,- A delightful afternoon tea was served by the host, esses, and the closing ode brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close.
