PLUNKET SOCIETY
TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. The committee of the local branch "< met on Monday afternoon there being present Mrs H. Y. Collins (in the chair), Mesdames Brooks, Glasson, Locke, C.' Macky, McCarroll, Matthews, O'Brien, Oliphant, C. W. Rickit, West and Swarbrick (secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames C. G. D6wnes, W. G. Macky, Montefiore. Nurse's report for the month of April showed 22 new cases. Visits to the homes 52; to the rooms, adults 139, babies 140, older children 17; total visits, 348. Telephone ca 115,35. Babies under supervision 215, older children 40. Considerable discussion took place regarding the most satisfactory day to hold the annual meeting, and it was finally fixed for L3O p.m. on Thursday, 4th June, in order to give country people an opportunity of coming to it. These meetings have m the past been attended by very few beyond the immediate members of branch and sub-branch committees, and there is a feeling that it would be a graceful act on the part of mothers receiving the benefits of Nurse McLeod's advice to show their appreciation of the work done by attending the meets. A really good attendance of the general public would go a long way to encourage the •- committee in its endeavours for the? coming year, which promises to be a particularly hard one for the Plunket Society. There is an indication that the Government (which at present • provides roughly one-third of the cost of running a branch, the remainder being raised by local efforts), may find it necesesary to withdraw this aid altogether, and will in any case be making a substantial reducdonations (April 9th to May '. 4th V totalled 19s 9d.
