TE lA.WAiMfUT ( U DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. MEETING OF NEW COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the recentlyeledted Te Awamutu District High School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, when there were pres-. ent: Messrs G. S. Clarke (chairman), ' A: J. Sinclair, H. E. G. Wilson, G. F. Smith, J. A. Maxwell, H. A Burchell, G. B. Melrose, M. G. Galloway, and _,G. W. Mairs, with Mir J. G. Wynyard JfT~ls secretary. The headmaster (Mr =~Jtvs J. Shepherd) also attended. A " Reference was made by the chairr; man to the small attendance at the householders' annual meeting. He considered this indicated a lack of interest, for the meeting should have been attended by practically every parent in the school district. He hoped members would continue to give ' - of their best efforts for the improvement of the school generally, and that at the end of the year the householders would assemble in large numbers to receive the report on the work of the year, and thus become more conversant with all school affairs. Following an inquiry from the supervisor of the Technical School, the chairman was deputed to confer with Mr Gittos re the grazing area for students' horses. It was decided to forward a letter of appreciation for services rendered by the retiring caretaker of the school, Mr G. Westbury, it being agreed that he had been very thorough and conscientious. Messrs Melrose and Burchell were appointed to act with the headmaster as a,purchases committee. . The secretary was instructed to obtain quotations for the supply of remodelled and second-hand typewriters. The secretary placed before the meeting a statement of the financial position, and. various small accounts were passed for payment. Several applications for the position of caretaker were received, and a selection was made, reducing the num- , ber to two, a small subcommittee being appointed to finalise the matter. Authority was given the headmaster to procure supplies of sugar and cocoa for distributing hot cocoa on cold winter mornings to those children desiring it. It was unanimously decided that the Education Department be asked to again consider the appointment of an extra assistant in terms of the letter to the Board qf_Education. Reference was made to the need for structural renewals at the infant school, and it was decided to ask that the Board's architect inspect the building at the fir& opportunity.
