After further passages between the magistrate (Mr Poynton) and counsel, in a case where a woman was charged with assaulting John Henry Hannan, the magistrate said that, notwithstanding his friendship for Hannan, he had decided to hear the information. The case was then proceeded with, defendant being convicted. At the request of counsel the fine was made £5 Is to allow of an appeal. _____
