ROADMAN ENDS HIS LIFE

AFTER A DRINKING BOUT,

KAWHIA, Friday,

An inquest concerning the death on Tuesday of Duncan Clark, a member of a roading party employed between Te Anga and Waitomo Caves, was held by Mr J. Kearns, district coroner, yesterday. Evidence was given by the deceased’s mates that the party had returned from a five days drinking bout in the Waikato. They brought a' quantity of liquor into the camp. Deceased showed signs of-in-disposition on Sunday but worker as usual on Monday afternoon. He failed to answer breakfast call on Tuesday morning, and his body was found in a bunk with the throat cut. The coroner returned a verdict that death was due to a wound in the throat, selfinflicted.
