OFFICERS RETIRED.
BOMB IN RAILWAY CIRCLES
(By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday.
It is reported that Cabinet has de-. cided that all officers who have completed forty years’ service in the Railway Department must tender their resignations from the service, to terminate on March 31st.
About ftrty men are affected, and the decision is said to have caused a sensation in railway circles. Promotions will necessarily follow, and the results will be far-reaching, affecting all ranks. The traffic and locomotive departments are chiefly affected.
AUCKLAND, Monday.
Inquiries made at the 'local office of the Railway Department to-day revealed that although rumour had been busy for some days nothing was known officially. Should Cabinet call for the resignation of officers with forty years’ service only one or two officers in the Department at the Auckland end will be affected, but it is possible that others will be transferred to other districts to take the place of those called upon to resign.
