STREETS LOAN.
THE QUESTION OF SUPERVISION. At last night's meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council the Mayor mentioned that it had been remarked that the streets loan proposals had hen temporarily shelved, pending negotiations for securing the services of Mr J. W. Civil, C.E., to supervise the scheme. This would be apart from his duties as Waipa county engineer. The negotiations had now advanced to the stage of applying to the County Council for its approval. He asked for the Borough Council's approval.
Cr Downes said that while he had implicit confidence in their own foreman's ability the appointment of Mr Civil would dispel a good deal of opposition by a section of the ratepayers. Mr Civil was a very able man who had the confidence of a large section. It was decided to make application to the Waipa County Council for Mr Civil's services.
