SEWERAGE CONNECTIONS.
(To the Editor.) Sir. —For some weeks past the Borough Council has discontinued the night soil service in the hope, apparently, that ratepayers would be compelled to join up with the sewerage system, but so far, I think, this has not met with the success anticipated. What is the position" in regard to sewerage connections? Has the Council made provision for ratepayers (not in a position to pay out a lump sum of £3O or £4O) to obtain a loan, repayable in instalments? If not, why has the Council, in the interests of public health, discontinued the nightsoi'l service which has been in operation for so many years? I am not writing this letter from a landlord's point of view but from a tenant's, and if other people come to this town who, like myself, are not used to disposing of nightsoil, I can see them packing up again and going to some town where there are better facilities in this respect. It is time the Council, seeing they have taken such a bold step., either compelled ratepayers to connect up or to again put the cart into commission. Or, in the alternative, make provision for loans to ratepayers. I am, etc., TENANT. (This matter was dealt with at last night's meeting of the Borough Council, and Tenant should read the report in this issue.—Ed. W.P.)
