ADVENTUROUS FARM HAND
FINDS HIMSELF IN COURT. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) HAMILTON, Friday. In April last a Rukuhia farmer named E. F. Peacocke had a valuable grey mare and saddle and bridle stolen from his farm. It was later learned that a former employee named Jas. Campbell had been seen riding the mare, which was abandoned about six weeks later in front of the Rotorua police station. Then it got into the hands of the poundkeeper, and was sold for £lO. Campbell was arrested by the Te Awamutu police at Ngaroto three weeks ago, and remanded to appear at Hamilton. Mr King, who appeared for the accused at the Hamilton Court to-day. pointed out that he was only a youth of 21. and was doubtless imbued with the spirit of adventure. He did not sell the horse, and had every intention when he first took the animal of returning it after having found work. His Worship (Mr Young, S.M.) placed accused on probation for. twelve months conditionally on his refunding £lO and paying other expenses.
