FATALLY SCALDED.
CHILD FALLS INTO BUCKET OF HOT WATER. PUKEKOHE, Friday. An inquest was held in Waiuku yesterday into the death of Sheila Connel, a child three years of age. who died as the result of falling into a bucket of almost boiling water. Dr. C. E. Howden stated that the child was admitted to the Franklin Memorial Hospital on the Bth inst. supering from severe burns caused by hot water on the back and arms. She developed septic pneumonia, and died on the 10th inst.. the cause of death being heart failure, due to pneumonia following severe burns. Clarence Davies, a farm hand, said the child followed him to the separating room. He poured the kettle of water into a •-■bucket and placed it close to the bench. The little girl took bold of the separator handle and said she was going to turn the separator. Witness picked up the spanner to undo the nut on the separator bolt, his hack then being turned to the deceased. lie felt a bump on his leg. and looked down and saw the child had tumbled backwards into the bucket of water. He immediately pulled her out. The child was attended to, and was afterwards taken to the hospital. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
