CROQUET.
VISITORS ENTERTAINED.
The annual match with Te Kuiti is always looked eagerly forward to by the members of the Te Awamutu Croquet Club, and the contest on the excellent Victoria Park lawn on Thursday proved a most enjoyable one. The visitors won by the handsome margin of 27 points, but it is hoped to even up matters in the return match to be played at Te Kuiti shortly. The lawn was in very fine order, and was highly commented on by the visiting ladies. They were met at the train, entertained at lunch and afternoon tea, and the day's friendly rivalry and social pleasure concluded with a visit to the pictures, the Te Kuiti ladies leaving later by the express. Mrs Battson cordially welcomed the visitors at afternoon tea, and Mrs Jarvey replied. The following were the scores of the games, Te Kuiti players being mentioned first:
Mesd'ames Jarvey and Hadfield (26), beat Mesdames Bowden and Thomas (11). Mesdames Darrow and Evans (26), beat Mesdames Battson and Bray (16). Mesdames King 'and McKenzie (26), beat Mesdames Wallace and Peate (24). Mesdames Darrow and Evans (14) lost to Mesdames Battson and Bray (26). Mesdames Jarvey and Hadfield (26). beat Mesdames Bowden and Thomas (14).
