ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

DEATH FROM INJURIES.

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Monday.

Arthur E. Moore, who was injured in a runaway accident on Friday last, succumbed to his injuries, never having regained consciousness. The other man, Patrick Callaghan, is still in a serious condition.

FATALITY AT FRANKTON.

HAMILTON, Monday

A fatal accident occurred at Frankton on Saturday evening, resulting in ■the death of Mrs Maria Turner, aged 90 years. The old lady was entering a bus when a car, driven by J. C. Johnstone, caught her as she went round the back of the bus, knocking her down and dragging her for some distance. When picked up she was unconscious, and died about 10 p.m. the same day. The inquest has been adjourned.

RUN OVER BY A TRAIN.

WELLINGTON, This Day,

Carrying a tin of kerosene in a sack over his shoulder, Frederick Thompson, a wharf labourer, last night attempted to board an outward-bound train after it had gained a fair speed. The gate of the platform was closed, and Thompson apparently lost his balance and fell between the last two carriages. The wheels of the last carriage passed over both legs and an arm. He was attended by Dr Young and removed to the hospital, where he died. As far as can be gathered Thompson was a single man boarding at Petone.

ACCIDENTALLY SHOT.

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,

J. Penny, manager of the Rakaia branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who is retiring on superannuation this month after forty years’ service, was accidentally shot in the abdomen last night. Pie was busy in the residential portion of the bank in work connected with his vacating the premises, when an automatic pistol dropped to the floor, and, exploding, lodged as stated. The injured man was removed to a private hospital, where he was successfully operated upon.
