BACK-BLOCKS EDUCATION.
SPECIAL ATTENTION PROMISED.
ATTRACTIVE SUGGESTIONS
(By Telegraph. Press Association;) WELLINGTON, This Day.
Speaking on the subject of backblocks schools, the Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education, said the Government had resolved to give some extra assistance to Education Boards in the matter of back-blocks education, and he had asked officers of his Department to report on. the question of providing special relieving services of, say, half a dozen teachers for back-blocks districts. It would be necessary to give these men fairly good salaries, probably better than they could ge't in the cities ordinarily under their grading. They would be available wherever there was a danger of schools closing—as many were at the present time—owing to want of teachers. They would go out and take over the work for six or eight months pending the appointment of permanent teachers. Consequently it would be possible to keep the schools open and the children taught. Teachers would not be obliged to remain in this special service for more than a year.
