ROAD REPAIRS.
TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —At the last meeting of the Te Awamutu Town Board I notice that the question of metal for repairs to Alexandra Street was raised, and I am surprised that some earlier action was not taken. Several months ago the purchase of six trucks of metal—or trash the local board uses for metal—was ordered, and at that time the supply ordered may very possibly have proved sufficient to do all necessary repairs. Yet against that authority the metal was never ordered, and now the road in places has got into a very bad state indeed, and twice the amount of metal will be needed. The Board has been blind to this surely when it allowed its own authority to go by unheeded. It is about time the metal was coming to hand, but possibly the Board’s second authority to order this metal has not yet'been given effect to. In the meantime the state of the road is going from bad to worse, and more cost is being piled up. But what does that matter, it is the public that must pay, and pay dearly. Against this sort of thing I for one ratepayer strongly protest, and I give the opinion that there will be many who will back me ‘tip.—l am, etc., Metal. [ln view of circumstances over which the Board had no immediate control the order in the first instance was delayed by approval. When circumstances permitted new authority was issued, which is now being given effect to. — Ed. W.P.] •
