ALBERT PARK.

TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —In your last issue “ Sport ” calls for suggestions for some possible means of carrying into effect the proposals for the use of Albert Park by the sports clubs

and the public. To my mind it is the clubs who should first shoulder the work, and if they do I feel sure that the public (who by the improvement of town'' property) will give willing assistance. The proposals are very worthy of encouragement ; the grounds, splendid in every wayj for general recreation, already-.! belong to the public, and only'* ' await the people’s will to make them of full benefit. The one obstacle is ways and means, but I think that, with the interest of the sports bodies guaranteed, the ways and means will soon be found. “ Sport ” suggests a loan. That is probably a satisfactory means of doing things, but a loan is a tedious business at best. Can we not raise the £IOOO, and have done with the matter of finance? I think we can. This really rests with the clubs themselves. They could combine and arrange a carnival at, say Easter, which itself should advertise the town and bring many visitors along, beside which, if well managed, the car- v nival would raise a considerable amount for the park improvement fund. That is the clubs’ work. Then the town, by means of a special rate, could possibly contribute to the fund. Say a special rate of d in the £ was struck for one year it would mean about £400; the clubs by a carnival could raise another £400; and then, by the value of the club members’own contribution (either in cash or labour, as “Sport” suggests), close on £IOOO would be available by Easter. Like Sport,” I want to see suggestions, and perhaps when the delegates next meet they will have given consideration to the many schemes, and some good may result. Regarding this proposal, I also think a public beautifying society is called for. Possibly this will be one of the issues that will spring out of the proposal.— I am, etc., Enthusiast.
