RANCIAOHIA. (Own Correspondent.) On Monday evening Mr Herman Foston gave an interesting lecture in the hall his subject being " Light on the Liquor Question." He was greeted by a small but interested audience. Mr Foston illustrated his lecture by over a hundred lantern slides, showing many of the world's ablest statesmen and leaders in all denominations who are in svmpathy with the temperance movement, thus proving that thinking people realize that alcohol is a foe to humanity and not a friend. The evidence of leading physicians was also given to prove that alcohol has no place in modern medicine, and is not necessary to mans' well-being. The much discussed question of how prohibition will affect the revenue was satisfactorily dealt with, and showed that prohibition would increase the revenue rather than reduce it.' At the conclusion of the address a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. On Wednesday night a good shower fell, and rain threatened all day Thursday. Gardens and pastures are showing marked effects of the drought. A very small quantity of hay is being harvested. There has been a marked decrease in the supply of milk. Mr Scholes, Liberal candidate, will address the electors of Hairini in the hall this evening.
