CHILDREN'S CONCERT AT PIRONGIA.
The Public Hall at Pirongia was crowded on Friday evening, on the occasion of "the concert held as a means of raising money for the school children's prize fund. Mr W. McCarthy (chairman of the school committee) presided and at the conclusion of the programme, which was given by the children, expressed the opinion that it was the finest school concert held at Pirongia of recent years. He congratulated the children on the excellence of their performance which was a credit, not only to themselves, but to their teachers. To Misses Benner and McLeod, who had instructed and trained the children especial praise was due, and it must have been most gratifying to them to see so large an attendance. He called for three cheers for the teachers which were very lustily given. ' The programme was a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable one and comprised the following items ;—See-saw,song,by massed jnnior pupijs'; action songs, Seven Daysf by seven girls; " Toddlekifis," by eight junior pupils ; jfFoxie," by junior girls; " Ploughing Song," by five boys; "Sfa Gulls," by two junior urflpils; "Manners," by junior/girls; "Miss Milligan's Girtef' by senior boys; and "jgCn Little Nigger Boys," by >cn senior boys;" duet "Rum 'Turn Tiddle," Masters W. and J. McCarthy ; songs, "He Did," Master Eric Bell; "I want to be a Soldier," Mastsr J. Turner; " Daddy," Master W. McCarthy ; step dance, two boys and two girls; and drill by the combined A short operetta " The Dolls' House Party" was given immediately at the conclusion of the former programme. Those children taking part acquitted themselves in a remarkably creditable manner, and the performance was very much appreciated, by the audience. The programme throughout was received by an appreciative audience, and several encores had to be granted before the performers were permitted to retire. After supper had been partaken of the hall was cleared for dancing, the three first dances being
for the children. Dancing was kept up for a few hours and so brought to a close a most successful and enjoyable school concert.
