KOROKONUI.

(Own correspondent.)

A meeting was held here on Saturday night, at which practically all the settlers were present. Mr Peake (secretary) was in the chair pending the election of a chairman, to which position Mr Best was elected. It was decided to form a school committee and to act in accordance with the proposals of the Government. These proposals were that the settlers should erect a building for the school, and the Government would then appoint a teacher. The committee formerly appointed reported that they were in a position to proceed with the erection of the building, as they

had some £ls in hand. It was decided to order the timber at 6nce, and as volunteers were forthcoming from all parts of the district to erect the building it is anticipated that the school will be opened at an early date. The settlers have requested Mrs Givern to accept the position of teacher.
