PUBLIC BATHS

MEETING TO BE CALLED WHEN INFORMATION AVAILABLE. At last night's meeting of tli ■ Chamber ol' Commerce Mr F. Eagle inquired if any advance had been made in regard to the baths question. The secretary (Mr Adeane) said that following on remarks made bv the Hon. P. C. Welib at the opening of the new baths at Ekelahuna concerning Government assistance, he had interviewed Mr H. M. Christie, member for the district, to ascertain, if possible, what measure of Government assistance would lie foitheoming in the way of subsidy. Mr Christie said he had not the slightest doubt that very considerable help would he forthcoming, hut it would be in the way of paying for labor. It was therefore advisable that the work should be done during the months piivate employment was restricted. Mr Eagle: If Waipawa'wants baths for next season now is the time to get going. Mr Critehley considered that the question had been advanced sufficiently to warrant a public meeting being called. The Government could nor bo expected to state what measure of subsidy would be granted, until a concrete proposal was submitted. He suggested that information as to cost, etc., he obtained from Ekelahuna, the secretary, on receipt of this, to call a public meeting. A motion to this effect was adopted.
