QUEEN CARNIVAL
seHEjiE • fo##aik ato NE\V PATRIOTIC APPEAL A queen carnival in which Cambridge will take part is to be commenced in the Waikato on October 14. The Waikato Patriotic Zone Committee made the preliminary arrangements at a meeting yesterday! The carnival will continue until December 14, by which time it is hoped to raise £45,000 for the relief of distress in London. Messrs C. G. Hunt and T. J. B. Mason, joint organisers of the last South, Auckland queen carnival, outlined a scheme, under which the district would be divided into 11 areas, each one of which would have a population of from 7000 to 9000. Hamilton would be divided into three areas. In addition, there would be a Maori queen, whose committee would •collect throughout the zone. It was-proposed to launch the campaign, on October 14 and end it on December 14. The meeting unanimously resolved to adopt the scheme. Messrs Hunt and Mason were appointed honorary organisers, Messrs Garo, T. G. Reynolds, J. R. Fow and A. O. Rice appointed a Hamilton executive committee, and Messrs W. C. E. George, Edgar James (Mayor of Cambridge), and W» Hetherington were appointed, a boundaries committee. In an appeal for co-operation, on the part of everyone in the zone, Mr Caro said there was no limit to the amount that could be raised. There was no desire to do anything that conflicted with the responsibility of the Government. He strongly urged Waikato residents to support the campaign.
