BOBBY CALVES
10,646 IN CAMBRIDGE POOL PAYMENT FOR AUGUST The secretary of the Cambridge District, Bobby Calf Pool, Mr R. S. Entwistle, stated yesterday that the second. advance payment, being for the month of August, had been made. The. amount disbursed to farmers was £2564. for a total of 10,646 calves. The advance payments are being made at 5/- a calf, the same as last.yea^v. So far the pool is-BJ-calyes ahead of last year. It is understood that there has been a greater percentage of bulls born this season; The taking in of light-weight: calves from 451 b to 491 b has increased the number slightly as well. The lightweight calves return 3/- to the farmer, which is the price of the skins. The calves this year are of greater average weight than usual. This has been due to the favourable season, which has enabled herds to be kept in good condition during the winter.
